Prayer Leader Assassinated in Iraq’s Erbil
TEHRAN (IQNA) – Security sources in Iraq’s Erbil governorate said an imam (prayer leader) has been assassinated in the city of Erbil.
Unidentified armed men shot dead Sheikh Hushyar Esmail in front of his house in Erbil, the sources said, Sumaria News reported.
The assailant left the scene immediately after the assassination, according to the sources.
Security forces have cordoned off the scene and launched an investigation to identify and detain the shooters.
Located approximately 350 kilometers (220 miles) north of Baghdad, Erbil is the capital city of Erbil governorate and of Iraqi Kurdistan.
