TEHRAN (IQNA) – Iran’s representative at the 8th edition of Sudan international Holy Quran competition went on stage to answer questions of the panel of judges on Sunday.

Mohammad Khakpour recited from memory verses 219 to 224 of Surah al-Baqara, 67 to 72 of Surah at-Tawba, 52 to 59 of Surah al-Hajj and 24 to 35 of Surah az-Zukhruf.

Later, he told reporters that he had a good performance and was contented with it.

Asked about his main rivals in the contest, he said that representatives of Nigeria and the US have had good performances so far.

The 8th edition of the international Quran competition got underway in the African country’s capital, Khartoum, on Saturday morning.

Known as the Khartoum Prize, it has been organized by the Sudan Quran Society.

74 Quran memorizers from 55 Muslim and non-Muslim countries are competing for the top prizes at the international Quranic event, which will run until Wednesday.
