TEHRAN (IQNA) – Lebanon will for the first time host an international Quran competition.

The first edition of the international Quranic event, named Tripoli Resolve Award, will be held on March 18-24, in the Arab country’s capital of Beirut, al-Liwa website reported.

The Azm and Saada (resolve and happiness) Institute will organize the competition.

Abdul Ilah Miqati, an official with the institute, said Lebanon’s Dar-al-Ifta will cooperate in holding the contest.

He said Beirut’s Al-Amin Mosque will host the competition on memorization and Tajweed recitation of the Quran.

According to Miqati, Yemen, India, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Turkey, Bangladesh, Tunisia, Somalia, Oman, The Gambia, Mauritania, Palestine, Canada, Libya, Uganda, Afghanistan, and Malaysia are among the countries that will send representatives to the contest.

It will be held for men only and those taking part should be 30 years of age or younger.

A competition on best scholarly Quranic studies and a conference with the motto of "Peace in the Quran” will also be held on the sidelines of the main event he added.
