TEHRAN (IQNA) – Head of Iran’s Welfare Organization said the country may host an international Quran competition for visually-impaired women.

Speaking at the closing ceremony of the second international Quran competition for the visually-impaired (men), Anushirvan Mohseni Bandpey said if assessments show there will be enough number of women from different countries to take part in such a contest, Iran will take steps to organize it.

The second international Quran competition for the visually-impaired was held in the Iranian capital of Tehran this week and came to a close on Wednesday.

The closing ceremony began with recitation of the Quran by winner of the top title in the recitation category, Mohammad Bahrami from Iran, and brief speeches by some of the participants, including the representatives of Jordan, Pakistan, Lebanon, Syria and Indonesia.

They thanked the organizers and described the international Quranic event as a venue for strengthening Islamic unity.

They also mentioned some points for improvement of the competition in the following editions.

The contest was one of five international Quranic events held in Iran this week.

The other four included international Quran competitions for school students, seminary students and women.

A total of 276 contestants from 83 countries took part in the five contests.
