Eid al-Fitr marks the end of the holy fasting month of Ramadan.

Countries such as Algeria, Bahrain, Egypt, Indonesia, Jordan, Kuwait, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Sudan, Tunisia, Turkey, Lebanon, Libya, Malaysia, the United Arab Emirates and Yemen had announced Sunday as Eid al-Fitr.

Ramadan- the ninth month on the Islamic calendar- ends with the celebration of Eid al-Fitr, which is one of the main Muslim holidays.

During the month of Ramadan, Muslims observe a strict fast and participate in pious activities such as charitable giving and peace-making.

It is a time of intense spiritual renewal for those who observe it. At the end of Ramadan, Muslims throughout the world observe a joyous celebration called Eid al-Fitr (the Festival of Fast-Breaking).

On the Eid day Muslims attend prayers in congregation, listen to sermons and give Zakat al-Fitr or donations to the poor.
