TEHRAN (IQNA) – A senior Iranian cleric stressed the need for Shia and Sunni Muslims to work toward a united Islamic Ummah based on the Quranic model.

Speaking in a meeting with a number of Pakistani seminary and university scholars, Ayatollah Ahmad Mobaleghi said it is an unwavering stance of the Islamic Revolution of Iran to promote Islamic unity.

He noted that the late founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Imam Khomeini, and leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei have emphasized the need for Muslim unity and proximity of Islamic schools of thought.

Referring to enemies’ attempts at dividing Muslims, the member of Iran’s Assembly of Experts added that if the enemies succeed in creating discord among Islamic schools of thought, it would harm the Muslim Ummah.

If fraternity and proximity among Muslims are strengthened, the Ummah can foil enemy plots, he went on to say.
