TEHRAN (IQNA) – Kuwait’s 9th international Quran contest, known as the Kuwait Award, kicked off in the Arab country’s capital on Tuesday.

As many as 130 Quran reciters and memorizers from 79 countries are present in the Quranic event, Kuwait’s Awqaf and Islamic Affairs Minister Fahd al-Afasi said at the opening ceremony, al-Asbou daily reported.  

He added that the 9th edition of the competition is held in the categories of Quran memorization at different levels along with recitation and Tarteel.

According to al-Afasi, there is an additional category selecting those who have served the Holy Quran.

The Islamic Republic of Iran’s representatives in the contest left Tehran for Kuwait City on April 10.

Mohammad Javad Delfani and Mehdi Gholamnejad will compete for Iran in the memorization and recitation categories of the event respectively.
