Two Filipino Quran Activists Due in Iran to Attend Int’l Quran Contest

TEHRAN (IQNA) – The Philippines will have two representatives in the 35th edition of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s International Quran Competition.

 

Mohammad Aramponi is a visually-impaired memorizer of the Quran who was born into a Christian family and later embraced Shia Islam.

He will represent the Philippines in the competition’s memorization of the entire Quran category.

Hamed Abie, meanwhile, will compete for his country in the category of recitation of the Quran.

He has won top ranks in Quran recitation contests in Manila several times.

The two received their plane tickets to travel to Iran during a recent meeting with Mohammad Jafarimalek, the Iranian Cultural Attaché in Manila.

The international Quran contest, along with four other international Quran competitions, including those for women, seminary students and school students will be held in Iran starting on Thursday.

More than 250 Qaris and Quran memorizers from 83 countries are expected to take part in the Quranic events.
