TEHRAN (IQNA) – Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani said the recent missile strikes against Syria by the US and its allies were meant to help terrorists.

Speaking in a meeting with Nguyen Phu Trong, Secretary General of the Communist Party of Vietnam, in Hanoi, Larijani said the Americans were trying to give another opportunity to the terrorists in Syria through the attacks.

Syria’s issues cannot be resolved through such measures, he underlined, adding that the Syria crisis only has a political solution.

The Vietnamese official, for his part, said his country is against the use of violence and weapons against people everywhere in the world.

He also said all the conflicts in the region should be resolved based on the UN Charter and international laws.

The US, Britain and France launched airstrikes on Saturday against Syrian research, storage and military targets under the pretext of a suspected chemical attack near Damascus last weekend that killed more than 40 people.

This is while Syria turned over its entire chemical stockpile under a deal negotiated by Russia and the United States back in 2013.

Washington, London and Paris said their aggression was in response to last week's alleged chemical attack in the Damascus suburb town of Douma, which they blamed on the Damascus government.

Syrian air defenses, however, managed to shoot down most of the missiles fired at the country.
