TEHRAN (IQNA) – The winners of the international Quran competition for the visually-impaired were announced by the panel of judges.

The competition has been underway here in the Iranian capital since Friday.

According to the announcement, Mohammad Anis from India bagged the top prize in the category of recitation.

Akram Auchar from Turkey came second and Mohammad al-Saeed Abdul Ghani al-Qamiri from Egypt came third.

Malaysian Mohamed Qaeem Nizar won the top rank in the category of memorization of the entire Quran.

The runner-up was Omid Reza Rahimi from the Islamic Republic of Iran while the third rank went to Hussein Muhammad Shalal from Iraq.

The winners will be awarded at the closing ceremony on Wednesday evening.

The international Quran contest for the visually-impaired was held as part of the 35th International Quran Competition of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

More than 250 Quran activists from 84 countries have been in Iran this week for the five sections of the competition.

The other sections included Quran competitions for women and seminary students.
