The Quranic event got underway in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates on November 4.
Every day, 14 contenders in two groups answer the questions of the panel of judges.
Each contestant is asked by the panel to read five 16-line pages of the Quran from memory.
In the preliminary round held before the official start to determine the competence of the contenders, the 12-year-old Khalili answered all the five questions without any problems.
The third edition of the competition, named Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak International Holy Quran Competition, will run until November 16.
Quran memorizers from 63 countries are taking part in the contest.
