TEHRAN (IQNA) – A former prayer leader of Al Aqsa Mosque died in the Sudanese capital of Khartoum.

Sheikh Mohammed Siam, who was also a former chancellor of the Islamic University in the Gaza Strip, died of a stroke on Friday, according to Sama news agency.

In 1988, Israel expelled the cleric because he wrote Hamas statements and was a senior member of the resistance group.

He lived in Sudan until 1994 before going to Yemen and acting there as a representative of Hamad.

After the start of clashes in Yemen in 2015, he returned to Khartoum.

In addition to being a preacher and writer, Siam was considered one of the most renowned Palestinian poets.
