TEHRAN (IQNA) – Ninety-six Qaris from different countries take part in Al-Kawthar TV’s international Quran competition, an official with the TV network said.

Speaking to IQNA, Seyed Abbas Razavi said the Quran reciters are from countries like Iran, Iraq, Egypt, Algeria, Morocco, Indonesia, Turkey, Bahrain, Afghanistan, Germany and France.

Every year, some 230 to 250 Qaris apply for participation in the contest, he said, adding that 96 are selected based on their qualities to compete in the Quranic event.

There are no age limits for the participants, according to Razavi, who noted that an 11-yeard-old is among the contenders in this year’s edition.

Noting that the Holy Quran is the pivot of unity in the Muslim world, he said the TV network’s officials attach great importance to organizing the Quran competition and do their best to hold a Quranic event that represents the Islamic Republic of Iran’s efforts to promote the Quran and its teachings.
