TEHRAN (IQNA) – A Malaysian teacher is using a novel method to teach people Makharij Al-Huroof, which is one of the basics for learning Tajweed.

Ezz Al-Hakim

Makharij refers to the place of articulating letters during pronouncing and it is important to be familiar with these places so as to have a correct recitation of the Holy Quran. There are five main places of articulation: Al-Jawf (empty space in the mouth and throat), Al-Halq (throat), Al-Lisaan (tip of the tongue), Ash-Shafataan (the two lips), and Al-Khayshoom (nasal passage).

“It is usually so boring for people to learn the Makharij Al-Huroof,” Ezz Al-Hakim told IQNA while visiting Iran section at Restu Global Quranic Arts Festival on Sunday in Putrajaya.

He said his teacher came up with a new idea to make the lesson more attractive by using mind-to-muscle techniques.

“We put the Makharij Al-Huroof in our hand’s muscles and that makes it easy to remember and difficult to forget,” he said, adding, “the method makes people interested in learning these basics.”

This is an “effective” method as “about 70 percent of the audience can understand the Makharij Al-Huroof” accordingly, he added.

People from the age of 7 to 70 come and learn this lesson as you could witness in this festival, he noted.

Normally it takes one day and a half for people to complete this lesson, al-Hakim said, noting that the maximum time required for learning these rules using this method is three days.
