TEHRAN (IQNA) – There are different reasons for disobeying God or having no belief in God, which cause one to get distanced from the sublime goals of life.

Surah An-Naziat

Some of these reasons have been explained in Surah An-Nazi’at of the Holy Quran.

An-Nazi’at is the name of the 79th chapter of the Quran. It has 46 verses and is in the 30th Juz of the Holy Book. It is Makki and the 81st chapter revealed to the Holy Prophet (PBUH).

The Surah begins with God swearing by Nazi’at (angels of death), and hence the name of the Surah.

At the beginning of this chapter, God swears by five types of angels: angels of death who violently tear-out the souls of the disbelievers, angels of death who gently draw the souls of the believers, angels who float (in the heavens by the will of God), the outstripping angels, and the angels who manage the affairs.

According to Nemouneh Exegesis of the Quran, the content of the Surah can be divided into six parts. The verses lay emphasis on the certainty of the Day of Judgment with numerous swears, point to the terrifying images of the day, briefly refer to the story of Moses (AS) and the fate of pharaoh to reassure the Holy Prophet (PBUH) and believers and warn disbelievers, and underline the fact that rejecting the Resurrection Day can lean one to different kinds of sins.

According to this Surah, preferring this world to the hereafter and following worldly desires are among the outcomes of disobeying God while fearing God could help one confront his worldly desires. It is also deduced from the verses of this Surah that arrogance, which comes from lack of knowledge about God’s status, is the root cause of rebellion and disobeying God.

Elsewhere in this Surah, signs of God’s power in heavens and earth are mentioned as reason and proof for possibility of resurrection and life after death.

Then, part of the Surah describes the events of the Resurrection Day, the fate of sinners and rewards of good-doers. It is also emphasized that no one knows when the Day of Judgment will come but that it is certainly close.

Verse 30 of Surah An-Nazi’at is about the extension of the earth: “After this, He spread out the earth,” which refers to the lands coming out of water. According to some Hadiths and Islamic sources, the lands of the earth had been under water before emerging, with the land of Mecca being the first to rise from under water.
