‘Imam Khomeini Revived Muslim Ummah’s Power, Dignity’

Lebanese scholars and institutions underlined the role of late founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran Imam Khomeini (RA) in reviving the Islamic Ummah’s power and dignity.

In a statement on the 34th anniversary of Imam Khomeini’s demise, the Muslim Scholars Council of Beirut said Imam Khomeini restored Muslims’ power and dignity and was a great supporter of the world oppressed.

It added that Imam Khomeini made it obligatory for every Muslim to defend Palestine.

The statement underlined that Muslims are inspired by the ideas of Imam Khomeini about values such as freedom, justice and honor.

The council reaffirmed allegiance with the Islamic Revolution and its ideals and reiterated the need for maintaining vigilance and insight in the face of enemies’ plots.

Also, Sheikh Abdullah Jabri, the secretary general of the Al-Ummah Movement of Lebanon in a speech said that Imam Khomeini (RA) called for unity among Muslims and urged the world’s oppressed to confront the Zionist regime.

He added that the late founder of the Islamic Republic revived the culture of honorable and dignified life and the tradition of standing up to oppression.

He also said Imam Khomeini taught the Muslim Ummah how to defend ideals.

He went on to say that the victories of the Lebanese and Palestinian nations are among the fruits of the Islamic Revolution.

Sheikh Ali al-Khatib, the vice-president of the Supreme Shia Islamic Council of Lebanon, was another Lebanese scholar delivering a speech on the demise anniversary of Imam Khomeini.

He described the Islamic Revolution of Iran as the biggest event in contemporary world history and sad Imam Khomeini revived the Islamic Ummah with his thought and his Ikhlas (purity of intention).  

Imam Khomeini died at 86 years old in 1989, nearly ten years after the Islamic Revolution triumphed and toppled the Pahlavi regime in Iran, which was supported by the US and led by Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, also known as the Shah.

Imam Khomeini lived in exile for many years in Iraq, Turkey and France, where he guided a growing movement of people, who finally removed the Shah and created the Islamic Republic.

Imam Khomeini founded the Islamic Republic after a referendum in 1979 when more than 98 percent of Iranians who could vote said 'yes' to the Islamic Republic.
