TEHRAN (IQNA) – The sign at the Rockhampton Mosque asked for "shoes and preconceptions" to be left at the front door.

People of all ages and beliefs willingly obliged as they packed into the house of worship for an open day on Saturday.

The event, organized by the Islamic Society of Central Queensland, was designed to dispel some of the myths surrounding Islam, News Mail reported.
It included a guided tour, a Q&A session, henna painting, and the chance to try a hijab and taste ethnic food.
Society president Riaz Ahmed said it was all about promoting understanding and tolerance, based on mutual interest and mutual respect.
"I believe that all of us have values that we share, cherish strongly and defend," he said.
"These shared values are so much greater than the differences in cultural heritage. People coming here today is proof of that."
Rockhampton's Mike Ryan was among those who went to the mosque.
He listened keenly to guest speaker Imam Uzair Akbar from Brisbane, who fielded questions from curious visitors in the audience.
"I think it's very important that we understand each other," Mr Ryan said.
"Listening to the Imam today I can see parallels through the teachings and experiences I've felt as a Christian.
"They have the same thoughts, feelings, loves and dislikes as everybody else."
