A forum titled “beyond solidarity: Quranic discourse on diversity and social harmony” will be held by Iranian Cultural Center in Greece on January 18 in Athens.

According to IQNA’s branch in Europe, the forum has been planned on the occasion of the birth anniversary of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) and the Week of Unity.

It will be attended by Mohammad Hussein Mozaffari, Iranian cultural attaché in Greece, Iranian ambassador, Shomali, head of the Islamic Studies Institute of Qom Seminary, Ziyaka, head of the Theology Faculty of the University of Aristotle in Thessaloniki city and a number of officials and directors of Islamic associations in Greece.

The Muslim population in Greece is not homogeneous, since it consists of different ethnic, linguistic and social backgrounds which often overlap. The Muslim faith is the creed of several ethnic groups living in the present territory of Greece, namely the Pomaks, ethnic Turks, certain Romani groups, and Greek Muslims, who converted mainly in the 17th and 18th centuries.

Estimates of the recognized Greek Muslim minority, which is mostly located in Thrace, range from 98,000 to 140,000, (between 0.9% and 1.2%) while the immigrant Muslim community numbers between 200,000 and 300,000.
