Having sickness in heart, being a liar, seeking monopoly and having corruption are the characteristics of a hypocritical lifestyle in this world.
Seminary and university scholar Hojat-ol-Islam Mohammad Taqi Fa’alli made the remark in the 13th session of a series of forums on Islamic lifestyle, describing the characteristics of the hypocrites according to the Quran.
He referred to verse 10 of Surah Al-Baqara “In their hearts is disease, so Allah has increased their disease; and for them is a painful punishment because they [habitually] used to lie,” and said the Quran mentions two kinds of diseases, one shallow and the other deep.
“When one has a disease in heart it means the disease has entered the depth of his being,” he underlined.
Hojat-ol-Islam Fa’alli pointed to envy, spite, ill-wishing, hostility towards others and all other moral vices as diseases according to the Quran, saying that such feelings in the heart are signs of Nifaq (hypocrisy).
He underlined that God does not like such characteristics and will leave anyone possessing them to themselves.
The cleric cited lying as another feature of the hypocrite, saying that it is a Divine Sunnah (law) that lies will be disclosed because the world has been founded upon the truth and lying is not tolerated.
He then quoted verses 11 and 12 of the Surah “And when it is said to them, ‘Do not cause corruption on the earth,’ they say, ‘We are but reformers’. Unquestionably, it is they who are the corrupters, but they perceive [it] not”.
Hojat-ol-Islam Fa’alli underlined that based on these verses, corruption and seeking monopoly are among other characteristics of the hypocrites. “They are so much submerged in their dreams and fantasies that even believe their own lies and live their lives based on those lies.”
The 13th session of the series on Islamic lifestyle was held Tuesday morning, June 18, at the premise of the Iranian Academics Quranic Activities Organization.
