TEHRAN (IQNA) – There are many verses in the Holy Quran that underscore the necessity to respect the dignity of human beings in various ethical, financial and other dimensions.

The issue of attaching importance to honoring people originates from the Holy Quran’s view of the principle of human dignity. God says in verse 70 of Surah Al-Isra: “We have honored the children of Adam…”

According to this verse, everyone has dignity for being a human being. This is an important point to contemplate.

Unfortunately, sometimes we questions some individuals’ dignity because of difference of religion and sect. But the view of the Holy Quran is not like this.

If we recognize the principle of human dignity, we will respect everyone’s honor and dignity.

The Quran has cited many examples of the dignity of human beings, including several verses in Surah Al-Hujurat.

For example, in one verse of the Surah, people are advised against spying on others, or backbiting and mocking others, things that are related to people’s dignity.

“Believers, stay away from conjecture; acting upon some conjecture may lead to sin. Do not spy on one another or back-bite. Would any of you like to eat the disgusting dead flesh of your brother?”(Surah Al-Hujurat, Verse 12)

Also, when we say the Quran and Islamic teachings view people as brothers and sisters in faith, it means the dignity of the brothers and sisters must be respected in the faith-based society.

Issues like Ifaf, Haya, and observing certain restrictions in interaction with unrelated members of the opposite sex are also related to the field of human dignity.

The Holy Quran explicitly defends the dignity of believers, saying in verse 58 of Surah Al-Ahzab: “Those who annoy the believing men and women without reason will bear the sin for a false accusation, a manifest offense.”

The dignity of human beings is not limited to moral issues per se but also includes the need to respect others’ financial rights. There are verses in the Quran about such issues, including those that ban appropriating an orphan’s property.
