TEHRAN (IQNA) – When we think about what a book is, the first questions that comes to mind is who has written it and whom it belongs to?

A Book Sent by God

The Holy Quran is the sacred book of Muslims that was revealed to the Holy Prophet (PBUH) over 23 years. The Quran is based on the will of God both in terms of content and words and no one, even the Holy Prophet (PBUH), has had the right to interfere in it or alter it. We read in Verses 44-46 of Surah Al-Haqqa: “And if he had fabricated against Us some of the sayings, We would certainly have seized him by the right hand, Then We would certainly have cut off his aorta.”

Some verses of the Quran have special features signifying that God, Himself, is the one who says them without any doubt:

1- In Verse 9 of Surah Al-Hijr, God makes it clear who has sent the Book: “We Ourselves have revealed the Quran and We are its Protectors.”

2- In some cases the revelation was without an intermediary, namely, God revealed the Quran directly to the Holy Prophet’s (PBUH) heart and in other cases He revealed it via Angel Jibreel (Gabriel). God Says in Verse 97 of Surah Al-Baqarah: “Say: ‘Whoever is an enemy of Gabriel, indeed, he has brought it down by the permission of Allah to your heart, confirming what was before it and a guidance and glad tidings to the believers.’” This verse shows God confirms Jibreel’s trustworthiness.

3- The Quran was revealed to the Holy Prophet’s (PBUH) heart. God says in Verses 3-4 of Surah An-Najm: “He does not speak out of his own desires. It is a revelations which has been revealed to him.”

What does Nuzul (sending down) of the Quran mean? When we talk about Nuzul, it means there is a higher place from which something descends. The Quran has been sent down from a higher world to this world but it does not mean that God has a place in heavens and has sent the Quran from that place but it shows the lofty status of God (God is omnipresent).

Another point is about whether Nuzul of the Quran is like Nuzul of other blessings of God for example rain from the sky. The answer is no. There is a difference in that rain falls down from the sky and when it comes to the earth it is no longer in the sky whereas the Quran is sent so that it is both here with us and in heavens, and it can help us get out of darkness and save us from deviation.
