The council organized its 19th scholarly assembly earlier this week, Al-Luwa website reported.

Held with the support of Al-Azhar chief Sheikh Ahmed al-Tayeb, it was attended by secretary of the council Hassan al-Saghir, Tafsir and Quranic sciences expert of Al-Azhar University Arafat Othman, and member of the Islamic Studies Assembly Mahmoud Othman, among others.

Al-Saghir said in his address to the gathering that the Quran is the source of Sharia rules, Islamic ideology and ethics and not just a word to read for blessing.

He added that the Holy Bok is the law for all aspects of Muslims’ life.

Mahmoud Othman also highlighted the status of the Quran and said an international conference in order to respond to questions and doubts about the teachings and orders of the Holy Book.

He added that interpreting the Quran and deducing rulings from its teachings require special knowledge in different fields.

No everyone who has some brief knowledge about Islamic sciences can claim to be able to deduce rulings from the Quran and attribute it to the Holy Book, he added.
