AMMAN (IQNA) – A number of Jordanian lawmakers in a letter to the Arab country’s government condemned recent Quran desecrations in Sweden and called for boycotting Swedish goods.

Jordanian lawmakers in a letter to the Arab country’s government condemned recent Quran desecrations in Sweden

In the letter, dubbed “Helping the Quran”, the Jordanian legislators described burning the Quran as a crime against humanity, Khabarni reported.

They stressed that the perpetrators of such a crime should be tried in the International Criminal Court (ICC).

They urged the government of Jordan to file a complaint over the issue at the ICC and raise the issue at the United Nations Security Council.

What happened in Sweden was a move that disrupts world peace and security, the parliamentarians said.

They also called for boycott of Swedish products and suspension of all agreements and deals signed between Amman and Stockholm until the Swedish government formally apologizes over the insults to Islam and its sanctities.

In late June, an extremist burned a Quran outside the Stockholm Central Mosque with police protection.

He timed his offensive act to match Eid al Adha, a major Muslim festival that is celebrated by followers of Islam around the world.

The police had granted him a permit based on free-speech rights, but they later announced that they had started an inquiry into “agitation.”

The act of disrespect provoked anger and condemnation from many Islamic countries, such as Iran, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Palestine, Morocco, Iraq, Pakistan, Senegal, Morocco, and Mauritania.
