ABUJA (IQNA) – The leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria has urged heads of Muslim states to impose a boycott on products made by those countries that have defended Quran desecration in the past few months.

Sheikh Zakzaky on Quran desecration

“The Muslim world, particularly those who are in authority, should show these European countries, in as much their governments defend those who burn and tear the Quran under the pretext of freedom of speech, now they should also say in the same freedom that they have the right also to have no relationship with them, economically,” Sheikh Ibrahim Zakzaky told Iran Press in an interview published on Tuesday.

Over the past months, the holy Muslim book has been subject to acts of desecration by extremist elements in multiple separate incidents in Sweden and Denmark, whose governments have condemned but also tried to justify such insults under the guise of "freedom of speech."

The sacrilege has ignited the ire of entire Muslim communities across the globe. Several countries have summoned or expelled Swedish and Danish ambassadors.

Describing some of the heads of Muslim states as “puppets” of the West, Sheikh Zakzaky added, “They must realize that if they don't do it, the people will revolt against them because the Quran is part of the Muslim people.”

“An attack on the Quran is an attack on our beliefs and everything we stand for, and Muslim nations can never accept that,” he stressed.
