TEHRAN (IQNA) – Fiqh al-Quran is a Quran interpretation work in which the author has interpreted the Ayat al-Ahkam of the Holy Book.

Fiqh al-Quran

Ayat al-Ahkam are the Quranic verses from which practical rulings of the Shari'a (or jurisprudential rulings) can be derived.

Fiqh al-Quran is a work by Allameh Qutbuddin Ravandi, a major Shia scholar of the 6th Hijri century. It is in the field of the Fiqh (jurisprudence) of the Quran’s verses, written in Arabic in two volumes. He wrote it based on the chapters of jurisprudence books from Taharat (cleanliness) to Diyat (monetary compensation to a victim’s family where death has occurred either intentionally or accidentally).

Life of Allameh Qutbuddin Ravandi

Qutbuddin Saeed ibn Abdullah ibn Hussein ibn Habatallah Ravandi Kashani, known as Qutb Ravandi, was a great Shia Hadith scholar, Quran interpreter, theologian, jurisprudent, philosopher and historian of the 6th Hijri century.

He was a student of Sheikh Tabarsi, the author of Majma al-Bayan Quran Exegesis.

Qutb Ravandi wrote many books in different fields, among the most famous of which is “Al-Khara’ij wal-Jara’ih”.

He benefited from the knowledge of his father and also the works and ideas of great figures like Sheikh Saduq, Sayyid Murtadha, Sayyid Radhi, and Sheikh Tusi.

According to the book Riyadh al-Ulama, Qutb Ravandi has heard and cited from major Hadith scholars of Isfahan, Khorasan and Hamadan, which is an indication that he made extensive trips for scholarly purposes.

Qutb Ravandi was among great men who demonstrated skills and mastery in different fields of Islamic sciences.

He was buried in the courtyard of the holy mausoleum of Hazrat Masoumeh (SA) in Qom.

Motivation for Writing the Interpretation

The author says in the preface that what motivated him to write such a work was that he found no book written on this subject, one that studies Fiqh in the Quran and in words of God.

That is why he started to investigate all jurisprudential issues in the words, meanings, appearance and depth of the verses of the Quran that are about the practical rulings of the Shari’a.

Features of the Interpretation

The contents of this book are written in a very brief way. It has been written in the order of jurisprudential issues and includes both interpretation and jurisprudence topics. The author is influenced by the views of Sheikh Tusi and Sayyid Murtadha, but also offers strong jurisprudential and interpretational analyses himself.

Another feature of this book is that the author manages to reconcile jurisprudential and interpretational views that appear to oppose one another.
